The Workshop will be held over two days starting on Sunday, 17th September.
Two representatives of ESWO
(European SignWriters Organisation) will talk about SignWriting: Thierry
Haesenne (Belgium) and Lucyna Dlugolecka (Poland).
Who can
participate?
Anyone who
is interested in SignWriting and wants to learn more about it and how
to read and write signs.
Programme:
The history of
SignWriting
Introduction to SignWriting symbols and writing rules
SignWriting workshop: writing and reading sign languages
Sunday
3pm - 6pm: History of SignWriting,
introduction to symbols and rules of SW
Monday
9am - 12am: SignWriting symbols and rules
1pm - 4pm: Texts in SignWriting
Venue:
Czech Union of the
Deaf (ČUN), Dlouha street no. 37, Prague
Workshop languages:
The speakers will
use IS (International Sign), written English and Czech. Interpreting into
Czech Sign Language or Czech will be provided if need be.
Participation fee:
100 CZK (€3,50) for
two days (50 CZK for one day)

Course Outline
Developing skills interpreting into and out of Spoken English from a Signed
Language.
Aims
To develop awareness and understanding of the key skills underpinning
working between spoken English and a Sign Language.
Objectives
. To develop strategies and techniques to effectively prepare for an
interpreting assignment.
. To extend and enhance interpreting strategies for working at a discourse
level.
. To develop skills in using linguistic and interpreting research
information to improve self- reflection.
. To develop and practice analytical skills.
. To develop and practice interpreting skills.
. To practice giving and receiving feedback between peers.
In interpreting performance the interpreter should pay attention to the
clarity of the target language, the coherence of ideas in the target
language, the use of cohesion marker and the processing of information from
the source to the target language. These issues will be addressed and as the
course goes on less time will be used on prepared interpretations leading to
a greater confidence in live simultaneous interpreting into and out of
spoken English.
